future dreams will be unlocked every tuesday, thursday, sunday

“Um…hear what?”

“About this gathering. Duke Verhagen is attending.” I nearly choked on my cocktail. Barely managing to avoid embarrassment, I set down my glass and took a sip of water.

“I see you didn’t know. I assumed you did, so I didn’t mention it.”

“Duke Verhagen still hasn’t found a partner?” The Verhagen Dukedom wasn’t short on funds, and the Duke was undeniably handsome. Surely, he could have found a partner easily if he wanted to.

“It’s not that he couldn’t find one… it’s the Saint’s daughter, you know?”

“The Saint’s daughter?”

“Yes, Lady Sierra.”

Sierra! The heroine! I was momentarily thrilled by the unexpected mention of the heroine. I knew she was a candidate for Sainthood, but I didn’t realize she was the current Saint’s daughter.

“The Saint recommended Lady Sierra as his partner, but Duke Verhagen refused.”

“Why?!” My involuntary outburst drew attention. I glanced around, then pulled Liliana further into the shadows.

“Why did he refuse?”

“Who knows?” Liliana looked around cautiously before whispering, “Rumor has it he fell in love at first sight with someone else and intends to marry her.”

“What?!” My chest tightened. You stupid male lead! Your destined partner is right in front of you, and you’re chasing another woman!

“What if she’s not his partner? What about his power then?” That aside, an Awakened one couldn’t live a normal life without a partner. Furthermore, physical contact was essential, creating a complicated dynamic. What woman would tolerate her beloved constantly touching another woman?

“Well…” Liliana’s expression darkened. She beckoned me closer and whispered, “He declared he’ll take a male partner.”

Oh…God.

I was still reeling after parting ways with Liliana.

“He declared he’ll take a male partner.” Her words echoed in my mind. What had happened? And love at first sight?

You didn’t even fall for the heroine at first sight in the original story!

He was more easily swayed than I thought. I felt dizzy. I certainly wasn’t going to play matchmaker between the hero and heroine. Should I just leave the continent? I tried to calm my racing thoughts. Escaping this matchmaking event unscathed was my priority. I found the most inconspicuous spot, huddled, and observed my surroundings. Thankfully, no one approached me. I nursed my drink, detached from the increasingly lively atmosphere.

Then, it happened. The hall fell silent. A chilling stillness descended, as if the master of the event had arrived. I instinctively knew it was Lennard. Slightly tipsy, a reckless defiance surged within me. My earlier resolve to quietly slip away evaporated like alcohol in the air. Hiding behind a pillar, I watched him enter. The vibrant stained-glass windows bathed him in warm hues.

Orange light, like a sunset, filtered through the glass and fell upon his head. His silver hair, normally cool and striking, shimmered with color, giving him an almost ethereal appearance. A palpable tension radiated from him. A power so potent it made even me, oblivious to its nature, feel uneasy. His relaxed demeanor and impeccable physique only amplified his presence.

“Handsome,” I murmured involuntarily. As he emerged from the shadows, his face held a faint smile. I frowned, a sense of familiarity tugging at me. A different image flashed through my mind – a face contorted with passion, not serenity.

“Oh?” A cool summer night, a gentle breeze, and hands and lips exploring my body.

“Oh, oh?” Slightly downturned eyes, a small mole beneath his left eye, a smile playing on his lips as he looked at me.

“I’m screwed.”

My one-night stand was Lennard.
